Endorsement Day

March 8, 2026

Election season is officially here!

Tomorrow marks the end of petition signing, and yesterday more than a thousand committee members gathered on the South Side for the Allegheny County Democratic Committee Endorsement Vote — showing up in force to take part in the democratic process.

That energy is what democracy looks like.

Congratulations to all the candidates who earned the endorsement, and to everyone who stepped up to run and serve. It takes courage, commitment, and community to put your name on the ballot.

A special shoutout to our friend and Green Tree's own, Ron Panza, for earning the Allegheny County Democratic Committee endorsement for PA State Committee!

Let’s keep this momentum going.

Senator Wayne Fontana’s Re-Election breakfast

March 7, 2026

It was a wonderful morning at Senator Wayne Fontana’s re-election breakfast.

We are always so excited to connect with fellow Democrats from around the region and so inspired by Senator Fontana’s dedication to our district!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the May 19 election!

Petition Signing Drop-In Party

February 21, 2026

We are STILL buzzing from yesterday’s Petition Signing Party!

The energy was off the charts, and we walked out feeling fired up about the road ahead and the incredible Democrats ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and made it such a powerful example of democracy in action.

Because you were there, Green Tree neighbors met their requirements to get on the ballot and many other candidates secured the signatures they need to move forward.

We are especially grateful to Wayne Fontana, Dan Deasy, Bob Palmosina, and Bethany Hallam, along with all of our local representatives and leaders who took the time to attend, connect with neighbors, and invest in the democratic process.

When leaders show up, listen, and engage directly with the community, it sends a clear message: local democracy matters.

This is what democracy looks like. Neighbors stepping up. Leaders standing alongside the community. Collective action that truly makes a difference.

Let the 2026 BLUE WAVE begin!!!

A Walk Through Bird Park

February 15, 2026

Members of Democrats for Green Tree’s Go Green Initiative braved the rain and cold to meet at Bird Park with our friends from Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy.

Together we discussed past and ongoing efforts in Mt. Lebanon, and explored how we might use that knowledge to enhance our green space stewardship in Green Tree.

Thank you to Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy for taking the time to talk with us and share your experiences.

January Monthly Meeting

January 25, 2026

Yesterday, we gathered for our second monthly meeting — 20 community members in the room, plus a joyful handful of little activists reminding us why this work matters.

There’s something powerful about coming together, sharing our individual strengths, and turning good ideas into real action. We rolled up our sleeves, worked on a project together (thanks to our neighbors at the Pittsburgh Overpass Project), and leaned into what it looks like to build change as a team.

When this group first came together, we couldn’t have predicted how quickly it would grow into a source of connection, purpose, and momentum. The news can be heavy, but being in community — choosing action, collaboration, and care — reminds us that progress is still very much possible.

We’re incredibly grateful for this group, for the energy you bring, and for your willingness to keep showing up for one another and for Green Tree.

Stay safe out there, Democrats for Green Tree. There’s work to do — and we’re just getting started.

Frontline Dignity Rapid Response Training

January 21, 2026

We want to make sure our neighbors have the tools to respond safely and effectively should a situation arise in our community.

Last night, seven members of Democrats for Green Tree joined over 400 others in attending the Frontline Dignity Rapid Response Training.

We listened to Frontline Dignity Founder, Jaime Martinez, and members of the County Public Defenders Office share critical information focused on preparing individuals to respond lawfully, calmly, and collectively during immigration enforcement activity.

Thank you Frontline Dignity for providing this critical training to our community members.

Gov. Shapiro Campaign Kickoff

January 8, 2026

Democrats for Green Tree showed up strong at the Governor Shapiro Campaign Kickoff today — and WOW, the momentum is real.

The room was buzzing, the energy was contagious, and we’re fired up for the road ahead!

Big shoutout to Dmitri For Green Tree for volunteering his time today and helping make the event a success!

ADVOCACY OPPORTUNITY

December 17, 2025

In November, advocates from across PA gathered in Harrisburg for Our Health, Our Future, Our Lobby Day to push for the Family Care Act—bipartisan legislation that would create universal paid family leave in PA.

With 30 Senate co-sponsors and 87 House co-sponsors (SB 906 / HB 200), the momentum is real. Now it’s time to bring the bills to a vote!

Community Connection!

December 13, 2025

Huge thanks to the Democratic Committee of Dormont for welcoming us into their December meeting (and potluck!) We loved getting to connect and hear about all the amazing work happening to keep progressive momentum strong.

It was inspiring to listen to two passionate candidates running for 42nd District Rep, both ready to take on the issues facing our region.

And a special shout out to the incredible Alliyson Feldmann of Feldmann for PA for sharing her insight, wisdom, and energy with us — we’re so grateful!

Senate passes CROWN Act!!

November 20, 2025

Exciting news out of Harrisburg with a win for racial and gender justice!!!

This week, HB 439 (AKA the CROWN Act) passed in the PA Senate!

The Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair (CROWN) Act explicitly prohibits discrimination based on hair, hair textures, and hair styles. This is an important step forward in advancing racial and gender justice and addressing long-standing discrimination, particularly against Black women and girls.
